INFORMATION ON EVENTS AT TIRUMALA

TTD HAS LAUNCHED ITS NEW WEB SITE

Please visit TTD's new web site at www.tirumala.org

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD)  is going all out to make full use of information technology, in a determined bid not only to rationalise its administration but also to upgrade the facility it is offering pilgrims thronging the hill temple.

At an expert committee meeting here on Wednesday and Thursday with top technocrats from the Tata Consultancy Services, Mumbai, the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, and other leading agencies, the TTD's Executive Officer, Mr.I.V.Subba Rao, held wide-ranging discussion on the task of applying information technology wherever  feasible.

Regarding the launching of website by the TTD, according to an official spokesperson, all the related works have been completed. Another major facility being discussed was to introduce the "token system" for pilgrims.

Under the system, tokens would be distributed to the pilgrims hinting the time at which they can have darshan of the lord. This would enable the pilgrim to walk into the queue-complex at appointed time. Though the TTD had agreed in principle to introduce the system,it is yet to work out details as to where and how the tokens should be distributed to the pilgrims.

According to indications, the TTD might distribute the token either at Alipiri, the foot of the hill or some point on the hill itself.

Yet another IT-based pilgrim amenity contemplated was to link the TTD information centers located in major cities with the computer terminal to be installed at Tirupathi-Tirumala and facilitate reservation of cottages.

Now the information centres are manually reserving the cottages that too one month in advance.

The committee also explored the possibility of TTD having a tie-up with the Railways and the APSRTC and probably with other state road transport corporations also, to sell the "arjitha seva" tickets across the counters.

Prof. Sadagopan, HOD of Computers Sciences, IIM Bangalore, Mr.T.M.Rao, Technical Director, NIC, Mr.T.V.V.Prasad from the TCS, Dr.Mathur, Regional Manager, APSRTC and Mr.Sesagiri, General Manager,Telecom, Tirupati, besides the top-brass of the TTD, participated in the meeting.
